Off-Leash Parks in Victoria
Three new off-leash sites have been recently added through the "Paws in Parks" program, with the total now currently numbering twelve designated off-leash parks in the Victoria area:
1. Alexander - Daily: 6am to 10am and 4pm to 10pm
2. Arbutus - Daily: 6am to 10pm
3. Banfield - Summer: April 1 to Sept 30, 6am-9am & 5pm-10pm
Winter: October 1-March 31, 6am to 10pm (new!)
4. Beacon Hill (South of Dallas Road, from Douglas Street to Clover Point) - Daily: all year round
5. Clover Point - Daily: all year round
6. Gonzales Beach - Daily: September 1 to May 31
7. Oswald - Daily: 6am to 10pm
8. Pemberton - Daily: 6am to 10pm (new!)
9. Redfern - Daily: 6am to 10am and 4pm to 10pm
10. Songhees Hilltop - Daily: 6am to 10pm (new!)
11. Topaz - Monday to Friay: 6am to 10am and 4pm to 10pm
Saturday and Sunday: 6am to 8am and 5pm to 10pm
12. Victoria West - Daily: 6am to 10pm
Note: Owners must remain in control of their dogs at all times, even at off-leash parks, and must always carry a leash with them.
With the exception of the above-listed off-leash parks and private property, all dogs must be on a leash in the City of Victoria (enforced by the City of Victoria Animal Control By-law 92-189, and violators are subject to fine).
The following regulations also apply in the off-leash area:
* Dogs must be accompanied and be under the effective control of their attendants
* Dogs (over four months old) must be licensed and wear a tag current for the license year
* Dog excrement (droppings) must be removed immediately by the dog's attendant and disposed of properly in a garbage receptacle
* Dogs must not be tied and left unattended by their attendants
* Female dogs in heat are prohibited
